Professor Tomljenović re-elected as a President of the Chamber at the EU General Court
Our renowed Professor Dr. Vesna Tomljenović, was elected as a Judge to the EU General Court in 2013 and re-elected in 2019. She was also re-elected as the president of one of the ten Chambers of that Court. Congratulations!

Professor Vukas spoke at the conference at the Vienna Law Faculty
Prof. Dr. Budislav Vukas participated at the international scientific conference “Mittel- und osteuropäischen rechtshistorischen Konferenz Wien 2019 - Central and Eastern European Legal History Conference Vienna 2019 (CEELHC)” held on 24-28 September 2019 at Juridicum der Universität Wien. His topic was „Die Einflüsse der Krise von Triest auf die Völkerrechtsentwicklung“.

Dean participating at the Paris Conference celebrating 25 years of the CE Commission against discrimination
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), a high-level conference will be organised on 26 and 27 September in Paris to take stock of its action and of the progress achieved in Europe in the fight against racism and intolerance, but also to develop responses to new challenges in this field. The Dean of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnić-Grotić was invited to participate at this conference.

Professor Nenad Hlača presenting in Argentina
Long-term scientific cooperation with Argentinian law faculties has continued this year as well. On the occassion of his recent visit to Argentina, Professor Nenad Hlača presented the Faculty of Law in Rijeka at the meetings and conferences on several institutions: in San Luis (Poder Judicial de San Luis), Mendoza (Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and Universidad de Mendoza) and Buenos Aires (Universidad de Buenos Aires and Asociacion de Magistrados y Funcionarios de la Justicia Nacional).
Professor Ivana Kunda guest lectured on Syracuse University
On 22 August 2019, Professor Ivana Kunda guest lectured at the Syracuse University College of Law on the topic "EU Digital Single Market: Old and New" comparing the topics, modalities and reasons for the European Union's legislative activities in trying to deal with issues that result from development of the digital technology, which pose challenges to legislators for decades now. This is one of the activities within the UNIRI project "Effective Regulation of the Digital Market as a Boost for Innovation in the ICT Sector".

Member of our teaching staff wins a prestigious international award
It is our great pleasure to inform you that Ivan Rubinić, assistant at the Department of Economic Sciences, Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, is the recipient of the 2019 Union for Radical Political economics Dissertation Fellowship. This prestigious award in the field of political economy is awarded to the doctoral candidate based on the excellence with respect to the approved doctoral dissertation proposal. Our colleague is the fourth URPE Dissertation Fellowship recipient, awarded for the proposed doctoral dissertation entitled: "The Dynamics of Economic Inequality in Euro Area Based on the Marxist Theory of Exploitation". Ivan Rubinić is a doctoral candidate of the School of Economics and Business of University of Ljubljana, supervised by the prof. dr. sc. Maks Tajnikar. Agreement on cooperation signed with MSU
Dean Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnić-Grotić, acting on behalf of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, signed the agreement on cooperation with the Michigan State University on 11 July 2019. This is the crown of the ongoing cooperation which has commenced nine years ago owing to the initiative of Prof. Dr. Adam Candeub, who then was a Fulbright scholar at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and Prof. Dr. Vesna Tomljenović, then the head of the Chair of the International and European Private Law and now the Judge at the EU General Court.
