Graduation ceremony for postgraduate students held at our Faculty
Graduation ceremony for Postgraduate specialist study programme in Corporate Finance Law was held on 7 July 2019 at University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law. On this occasion degrees were conferred to students of the first three generations of this study programme. The event was moderated by the Dean of Rijeka Faculty of Law, Prof. Vesna Crnić Grotić and co-directors of the study programme, Prof. Edita Čulinović-Herc and Prof. Nataša Žunić Kovačević. Students that have successfully completed the Postgraduate specialist study programme in Corporate Finance Law have gained interdisciplinary skills, knowledge and competences on various aspects of corporate finance, including knowledge in the fields of economics and psychology.
Digital market and new legal regulation
Part of the scientific conference Giornata di studio del Nord Adriatico - temi giuridici di attualità / North Adriatic Scientific Colloquium - Current Legal Topics held at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka on 4 July 2019, was the session titled “Current Issues in Digital Single Market”. Discussion identified some typical legal problems encountered by entrepreneurs when dealing with new digital technologies and showed that the existing rules are sometimes not sufficient, but also that introducing new rules at the very beginning inevitable opens certain questions and leaves ample room for improvement. This session is organized as a part of the UNIRI project no. 18-214 “Efficient regulation of digital market as an Incentive for the innovation in the ICT sector”. Participants to the session were: the members of the project team Vlatka Butorac Malnar and Danijela Vrbljanac from PRAVRI and Stefano Pellegatta from Italy.

Discussion on the legal concept of “vulnerability” of sexually abused children
Part of the scientific conference Giornata di studio del Nord Adriatico - temi giuridici di attualità / North Adriatic Scientific Colloquium - Current Legal Topics held at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka on July 4, 2019., was the session titled "Protecting Child Victims of Sexual Crimes and Their Vulnerability". The presentations have demonstrated how much attention is needed to implement the constitutional concepts, thus also the one of the vulnerability of the victims of criminal acts, into the particular legal norms in away to avoid interference with the coherence of the overall criminal law system. This session is organized as a part of the UNIRI project no. 18-86 "Sexual Child Abuse in the Republic of Croatia – Phenomenological and Etiological Perspectives". Participants to the session were: the head of the project Dalida Rittosa from PRAVRI and from Italy: Francesco Trapella and Alessia Muscella.

Erasmus + Mobility Agreement signed with universities from Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Germany
The University of Rijeka signed the Erasmus + Mobility Agreement with the following universities: INSUBRIA, TORINO and UDINE (Italy), RZESZOW, LODZ (Poland), PANEUROPEAN (Slovakia) and SIEGEN (Germany), for the field of law. The agreements were signed for the period 2019 to 2021 and include student mobility for the purposes of studies and teaching staff mobilty for teaching. Assist. Prof. Dr. Vanja Smokvina appointed an arbitrator at the CAS
We are proud of another confirmation of the professional expertise of our faculty members, this time from Switzerland! International Council of Arbitration in Sport (ICAS) confirmed the appointment of Assistant Professor Dr. Vanja Smokvina as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the world highest legal instance where the sports disputes are resolved, seated in Laussanne, Switzerland. He has been appointed to both of their lists of arbitrators. On the General list (for all sports) Vanja Smokvina is one of the three arbitrators from Croatia (along with Prof. Dr. Siniša Petrović and Petra Pocrnić Perica), while he is the only arbitrator from Croatia on the Special list (for football).
