The e-book Promoting a Strategic Approach to EU Sport Diplomacy is published
The e-book Promoting a Strategic Approach to EU Sport Diplomacy was published by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka with the support of the European Commission Representation in the Republic of Croatia in the edition of the Faculty Center for Sports Law, Sports Policy and Sports Diplomacy. This is a unique edition created as a result of the eponymous Erasmus + sport project, which ended in December 2021. Authors are: Professor Richard Parrish (Edge Hill University, UK); Dr Antoine Duval (TMC Asser Institute, Netherlands); Silvija Mitevska (formerly TAKT, Republic of North Macedonia); Associate Professor Carmen Perez-Gonzalez (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain); Associate Professor Vanja Smokvina (University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law, Croatia); Professor Albrecht Sonntag (ESSCA School of Management, France); Professor Thierry Zintz (Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium) and Dr Andrea Cattaneo (Edge Hill University, UK). The UEFA Football Law Program virtually started on 21 February 2022
Yesterday, the second of four sessions of the prestigious education program for football lawyers began, which the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and its Center for Sports Law, Sports Policcies and Sports Diplomacy are conducting together with UEFA. The program was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and Arts of the University of Rijeka, prof. dr. sc. Gordan Jelenić, Dean of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka prof. dr. sc. Vesna Crnić-Grotić and on behalf of the Croatian Football Association by Tanja Peraković. The second session lasts until 24 February 2022, and the program focuses on various aspects of the FIFA transfer system. You can find out more about the UEFA Football Law Program here.
Croatian Translation of the Book on the Regulations on the Matrimonial Property Regime and the Property Consequences of Registered Partnerships Published
As part of a project funded by the EU Justice Program EU-FamPRO, in which the Faculty of Law in Rijeka participates as a partnering institution, the e-book “Uredbe EU-a o imovinskim odnosima bračnih drugova i registriranih partnera” was published by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka. It is a Croatian translation of the publication “EU Regulations on Matrimonial Property and Property of Registered Partnerships” edited by Prof. Dr. Lucia Ruggeri, coordinator of the Eu-FamPRO Consortium from the University of Camerino, Dr. Agnė Limantė from the Law Institute of the Lithuanian Center for Social Sciences and Assist. Prof. Dr. Neža Pogorelčnik Vogrinc from the University of Ljubljana. The authors of the chapter are researchers from the EU-FamPRO consortium institutions.
The publication provides readers with a comprehensive analysis of Regulations 2016/1103 and 2016/1104, the most recent sources of European private international law on the property relations of cross-border couples, and the relationship of Regulations with other instruments. The publication aims to provide an effective multilingual tool for interpretation and application of these instruments.
Second international conference of the EMPLOYS project, 17. 12. 2021
On Friday 17th December 2021 in Lisbon in a hybrid manner there was organised the second conference of the Erasmus + project EMPLOYS in which the Faculty is a partner. At the conference the key-note was Mr. Jose Manuel Araujo (European Olympic Committee), the athletes Célio Dias & Sofia Gomes have given their point of view on the Project’s topic and the interim report of the scientific research on the employment relationship in Olympic sports in all EU-27 Member States + Norway and UK. Furthermore, there was organised a panel with Portuguese stakeholders and in the end there was a panel on the comparative prospective in Italy, France, Austria and Malta. Next conference will be organised in the beginning of 2022 at Edge Hill University (UK), a then at the end of April the Faculty will host the fourth conference with a topic on good governance. The Project will end in December 2022.
International conference of sports law students 14th December 2021
On Tuesday 14th December 2021 the Centre for Sports Law Research of the Edge Hill University (UK) and the Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sports Diplomacy Centre of the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law have organized an online international students conference on various sports law topics. The topics have been presented in a comparative manner, UK and Croatian prospective, and were on: Combatting Football Hooliganism: Legal Responses, The Labour (Employment) Status of Athletes, Sports Injuries and the Law: Actions in Negligence and Sports Violence and the Criminal Law.
On behalf of the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law the students who participated as speakers were: Gabrijel Prpić, Iman Mrkić, Riccardo Sgardelli and Leonarda Šenvald, all students form the course Sports Law of the IX semester of the Integrated study programme in law.
We are extremely proud of the way how our students have demonstrated a high level of legal knowledge in sports law and have, in a competent manner, equally professionally presented their topics in Legal English, like their colleagues from UK did. It has been concluded that this initiative will repeat regularly on an annual basis since it is in students’ interest to have such an experience but also because it has huge impact on the international visibility of the Faculty.
Programme
Meeting with representatives and teachers of the Faculty of Law in Mariboru (Slovenia)
On December 13, 2021, as part of the Providentia Studiorum Iuris project, an online meeting was held with representatives of the Faculty of Law in Maribor, Slovenia, which is also the last of a total of four scheduled meetings.
The meeting was attended by more than twenty teachers from the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Faculty of Law in Split who exchanged experiences with Slovenian colleagues on different models of practical forms of teaching in law studies and opportunities to strengthen practical competencies of law students.
Administrative Dispute in the Central and Eastern European States - Collected Papers
In September 2021, a collection of papers entitled "Administrative Dispute in Central and Eastern Europe - Collected papers'' was published in English, as a co-publication of Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka and the High Administrative Court of the Republic of Croatia. The publication includes papers of legal scholars and administrative judges that were presented at the international conference held in Opatija on June 3 and 4, 2019. The publication is divided into four parts. The first part refers to the presentation i.e., summary of the international conference. The second part analyses the matter of administrative dispute from the legal doctrine standpoint, while the third part considers the same matter from the point of view of the administrative judges, as legal practitioners. The fourth part considers application of the norms of administrative dispute in the field of the right to access information. This Publication is considered to be interesting and helpful for the academic community, judges, lawyers and all other legal professionals who encounter the issue of conducting administrative disputes in their professional work.
